Dog Grooming in Somerset

Head to Tail have been caring for dogs coats and general well-being in Somerset for over 25 years. Whilst we are grooming your dog we will check them for any problems they may have, such as unwelcome visitors like fleas, dirty ears and overgrown nails.

We deal with all this and return to you a shiny, happy dog with uncomfortable problems addressed.

Shampoo and Tidy

Whatever the breed it's amazing what a shampoo and tidy can do to smarten your dog up.  He doesn't have to be one of the "groomed" breeds to enjoy a bath and attention to his ears, nails and eyes.

Little tricks like a dab of vaseline on his nose can really brighten up his face.

Clipping

Most terriers and spaniels are clipped; we can finish your dog in a style to suit you, whether it is the traditional clip for the breed or a closer clip to keep him clean and tidy.

Many of the larger coated breeds, such as Beardies and Old English Sheepdogs are kept clipped for ease of coat maintenance.

Hand Stripping

This is a specialised skill and requires a great deal more work. Not all coats are suitable for hand-stripping.  It does mean that your dog keeps the correct coat texture and the coat grows more tidily than after a clip.

Grooming

Other breeds are according to coat and condition.  A dog whose coat has been looked after between appointments will be quicker to groom and the experience will be a much more pleasant one for him.

A badly matted coat may require cllipping off entirely; though we will do our best to save a coat where possible, so long as it does not unduly distress the dog.

Prices

Prices start from just £10 for a small smooth/rough coated dog. The grooming will be priced according to the amount of work involved.  We will be able to give you a price when you make the booking

Tips for Home Grooming

Do groom your dog throughly at least once a week using the correct tools

Check his ears for accumulated debris once a week

Be kind and patient and make it a game for puppies

Stop grooming when you can see he is getting fidgety; your dog must never dictate when the grooming session ends

Always use dog shampoo and conditioner; human equivalents are not the correct ph for a dog's coat

Don't shampoo more frequently than every four weeks; this will strip out the natural oils and result in his coat getting soaked in the rain

Either clean his teeth with canine toothpaste (easiest if squeezed on a dental floss toy) or give him daily dental chews or a dental chew toy to keep his teeth in good condition
